Origins and Development

            Viso, Rodríguez, Cottin, Medina, Ramírez y Asociados is  the successor of the law firm founded in 1944 by the Jurist José Rafael Viso Pittaluga.

            The law firm has set as its objective to continue with the policy of its founder of maintaining a balanced combination of an active preservation and judicial defense of its clients’ rights, giving them preventive advisory services and zealous personal attention of their interests.

            In its development is has adopted human quality and professional excellence as a requirement for the admission of new members. It is currently formed by 24 lawyers specialized in several branches of Law, rendering valuable legal services to the community and contributing to the prestige of the Venezuelan Forum.

Guidelines for the Firm’s activity and purposes

        Since its origins and through its active life, the Firm has advised and represented important institutions of the public and private sector. Many of its members have also been members of Boards of Directors or are advisors of leading business corporations.

            Among the Firm´s clients there are banks; insurance companies; leasing companies; construction companies; corporations devoted to generation, transmission and distribution of electricity;  food trading companies; textile plants and cloth marketing companies; shoe makers and dressmakers; shipping and aviation companies; newspaper and magazine editing companies; and universities.

            The legal services are rendered on a cradle-to-grave basis, starting from the incorporation of the company and going through all levels of issues faced during their business activities.  This implies advising on contractual, tax, civil, business, labor and monetary issues; and the handling of domestic and international bidding processes, privatization processes, tender offers, and foreign investments.

            In spite of the fact that it has been the Firm’s policy to recommend and provide preventive advisory services to its clients aiming to lessening litigation, it has also specialized in representing them before the Courts of the Republic, at all levels. The Firm has distinguished itself in these activities and it has been recognized for the success of its litigation work and for its lawyers’ strong litigation power.

        Our success in many trials where we have acted has allowed us to increase our advisory abilities. It is indeed difficult to prevent the negative consequences of the clients’ legal acts when lacking the litigation experience obtained from transcending cases that require agility in their follow-up and creativity aimed at their convenient solution.

It also has a presence in more than 20 countries worldwide through Lawspan International. All of this allows the firm to responsibly widen its services, both at the domestic and international level.
